Case Study: City of Newport Half Marathon 2013
Customer - St. Davids Hospice
Requirements -Â Â In it's first year, the organisers needed advice and support from early on in the planning stages to ensure they had a system that met their needs. After early talks, we were able to identify the key requirements, which were wide area coverage on two channels and clear audio for the users to communicate over the noise generated from the supporters along the course and in the stadium for the start and finish.
System Provided - We quickly identified that the digital Motorola DP4400 hand portable would be ideal for this system. With the installation of a Motorola DR3000Â digital base station, we able to utilise the two channel working feature to provide two wide area channels for the organisers and stewards to use.
The Mototrbo DP4400 hand portable benefits from Intelligent audio, which means the radio volume automatically adjusts to back ground noise - ideal for crowd environments. The Li-Ion battery option provided a lightweight solution as well as lasting for up to 16 hours.
The system was installed and tested for full site coverage before we handed it over to St. Davids Hospice. All of the  hand portables were fully charged and numbered before delivery, log sheets were provided to record users and training given to key staff members.Â
Outcome - The event was a huge success in it's first year; raising money for valuable resources, raising awareness, and putting the City of Newport on the map for running! The 2014 half marathon is well into it's planning phase  and the organisers hope to build on this years success. The radio system that Contact Radio implemented assisted with the smooth organisation leading up to and during the event, and we are looking to forward to continuing our relationship with St. Davids in future years.
If you need a similar system for your event, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to discuss your requirements.
