Case Study: Ryder Cup Park & Ride
Customer - Stagecoach Ltd
Requirements - A method of instant communications between senior management to ensure the smooth operation of the Park & Ride System for the Ryder Cup staged at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport. Stagecoach had a fleet of 150 double decker buses transporting in excess of 45,000 fans over the course of the event to and from the park & ride sites and the resort. The three sites were located at Tredegar House, Tata Steel Llanwern and Usk. The brief was to provide a radio system to achieve this.
System Provided - A constant link amongst senior management and the sites was essential to make the system the success that it was. The siting of a Talk Through Base Station and Aerial System meant full radio coverage was acheivable with hand portables across all of the Park & Ride sites and the Celtic Manor Resort.
Intial site tests were carried out before meeting up with Stagecoach to ensure they were completely satisfied with the radio coverage and the equipment that we were going to supply. We tailored the system to meet their needs by providing the necessary charging units, spare batteries and fixed units to site at various locations to ensure battery life never became an issue. Also, all equipment was numbered and labelled with log sheets provided to keep a record of users on a daily basis - essential when retreiving the equipment at the end of an event.
Full instructions were given on the operation of all equipment supplied, and the provision of an out of hours contact number meant Stagecoach never had to worry about the radio system failing because we offered immediate back up.
Outcome - Stagecoach provided a hugely successful park & ride scheme for the Ryder Cup, and the radio system provided the instant communications that were required for them to carry it out. Our aim in any hire is to not only provide a tailor made system for the brief in hand, but to also build a relationship with the customer which we can hopefully build upon in the future - this can firmly be said about Stagecoach.
